Layout
changes planned for 2000
The
layout is everchanging. During 1999 and continuing into 2000, the hillside
above Thompson Flat is recieving a facelift. The Olympia passenger yard
is also nearing completion as buildings are placed. The narrrow gauge
is experiencing a track re-alignment required by a new hidden yard.
Olympia
Yards
Passenger
service was a very imporant part of the railroads. On an overnight from
Chicago to St. Louis, a man could get a haircut after a very first-class
dinner presented in the Pullman diner car. The Olympia frieght yard has
been re-built as a passenger car servicing facility. Buildings will include
food loading, postal mail service, and other facilities required to keep
people happy and service in top-notch shape.
Hills
Above Thompson Flat
The
slopes are gentle and the green grass of spring has turned that golden
brown color so often associated with California. The colors are based
on hues and shades from Toluome County, home of the Westside Lumber Company.
In fact Joe has taken dirt from there, and sifted it into the scenery.
Narrow
Gauge Track
Re-alignment
Construction has begun on a hidden yard for narrow gauge. To accomodate
the yard leads, some of the track in the canyon above Nevins is being
re-routed. Of course a new bridge will be constructed. But right now the
scenery has a large hole in it. You can peek through and see behind the
scenes to the framework that holds up our mountains (yes, they are hollow).
